THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT-From Peter Tyzack8.11.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 1st Jun 2010 On May 6th 2010 people across the country went out to vote and decided that they wanted a change of Government. However, it wasn't a straight forward swap from Labour to Conservative as in previous elections, this time no one party had an overall majority and history was in the making. The national picture showed the public what an unfair voting system we currently have with the Conservatives getting 36.46% of the vote and having 306 (47%) MP's; Labour getting 29.01% of the vote and having 258 (39%) MP's; Liberal Democrats winning 23.03% of the votes and having just 57 (just under 9%) MP's. After 5 days of negotiations we now have a coalition government of Conservative and Liberal Democrat MP's whose aim is to get the country back on it's feet. Over the coming months we shall see how well these 2 parties work together and whether their differences are too much to handle. Locally, in Filton and Bradley Stoke (F&BS) the national picture was repeated with the Lib Dems taking 25.2% of the vote and coming 3rd (despite gaining an additional 1% in the vote nationally we lost seats in Parliament-What a daft system!). I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to those people who came out and voted on May 6th giving an excellent 70% turn out in F&BS. We now look to May 2011 when local elections are due across South Gloucestershire. Liberal Democrats are a strong party in local councils and recently increased their majority in Bristol. With a small swing to the Liberal Democrats in South Gloucestershire we may be able to take control of the council and make a positive difference to the lives of people living and working in the area. Please support us when the opportunity arises. Peter Tyzack
